Workshop on The Development of The Asean Energy Managers' Accreditation Scheme

ASEAN member countries are at different stages of development in the field of Energy Efficiency and Conservation (EE&C). The existing policies and regulations on EE&C in ASEAN countries have achieved some success and have demonstrated that the market is, in some countries are ready to take up the lead in implementing EE&C measures beyond the regulation.

Pusat Tenaga Malaysia as the ASEAN Energy Efficiency and Conservation (EE&C) and Sub-Sector Network (SSN) Country focal point is facilitating a feasibility study for the establishment of an ASEAN Energy Managers' Accreditation Scheme (AEMAS). AEMAS is funded by the EC ASEAN Energy Facility (EAEF) and conducted by EEC Energetics Co. Ltd. ( Thailand ) in partnership with the Copper Development Centre ( Singapore ), the National Energy Foundation ( UK ) and the Centre for Knowledge Exchange ( Ireland ).

A Workshop on the Development of the ASEAN Energy Managers' Accreditation Scheme (AEMAS) was held in Kuala Lumpur on Monday, April 25, 2005 . The workshop was officiated by Y.B. Datuk Dr. Ir. Mohd. Annas Hj. Mohd. Nor, Chairman of the Energy Commission and the welcoming remarks was delivered by Y.B. Dato' Syed Hamzah Syed Othman, Chairman of Pusat Tenaga Malaysia . The workshop was attended by ASEAN and Malaysian officials and the participants were mostly Energy Managers/Policy Makers/Consultants, Facility Managers/Enginers and Maintenance Managers.

The main objective of this workshop was to present the feasibility study of the ASEAN Energy Managers' Scheme. The workshop will also provide a platform to Energy Managers, Energy Service Companies (ESCOs), industries and others to discuss and provide recommendations and suggestions on the proposed accreditation scheme, so as to ensure that it best suits the needs and expectations of energy end-users. The other objectives of this feasibility study are to facilitate regional cooperation in the field of energy efficiency and conservation; to create regional markets for Energy Managers; and to further promote energy efficiency and conservation in ASEAN countries.

The outcome of the Workshop will be documented and incorporated into the feasibility study of the ASEAN Managers' Accreditation Scheme.
