Tenaga Malaysia will work with the National Productivity
Corporation (NPC) to undertake comparative energy-use benchmarking
for the Asian region. This follows a successful international
workshop on Green Productivity and Energy Benchmarking held
recently in New Delhi, India organised by the Asian Productivity
Organisation (APO), Tokyo
At
the workshop, the NPC representative Ms. Lok Lee Lee presented
on the key findings from the Malaysian Industrial Energy
Efficiency Improvement Project (MIEEIP), particularly on
the energy audit results, subsequent energy savings measures,
potential reduction in CO2 emissions and the importance
of energy-use benchmarking.
Ms.
Lee Lee, who is the Technical Advisor of the MIEEIP Energy-use
Benchmarking Component delivered two papers on Energy Efficiency
Benchmarking in Malaysia and Energy Efficiency Towards Green
Productivity, based on the project experiences.
Case
studies featuring Malaysian companies that have implemented
energy saving measures were illustrated to show the potential
viability of energy efficiency and its impact on sustainable
green productivity.
As
a follow-up to the meeting, NPC has proposed to collaborate
with PTM to carry out the comparative energy-use benchmarking
studies for Malaysia and other selected countries.
The
study on eight energy intensive sectors will compare the
energy consumption figures, production quantities and the
specific energy consumption (SEC) values. It is expected
that the study will assist PTM in planning its EE and RE
outreach activities. The information can also be used by
the authorities to chart out future policies on energy.
