Feedback from local industrial firms indicate that most of the industrial equipment that are locally manufactured are of poor quality, when it comes to energy efficiency. But these equipment find their way into the market because of the relatively high price of imported equipment. Unfortunately, in order to save on operating costs, industrial firms are burdened with equipment breakdowns and high energy bills because of the inefficiencies.

This component aims to identify the potential improvements and new designs for locally manufactured industrial equipment. While the demand for energy efficient equipment is being addressed by the other components, this component will ensure that local manufacturers are motivated to improve their designs and manufacturing techniques.

The programme has achieved this by:

Training local equipment manufacturers on high efficiency designs and production technologies

Providing technical assistance to local equipment manufacturers

Providing funds to projects for design and manufacturing improvement of selected local industrial equipment manufacturers

Evaluating the results and impacts of the funded equipment design and manufacturing improvement projects.

What equipment?

An equipment market survey that was conducted identified five sets of equipment crucial in the efforts to improve industrial energy efficiency, and that are locally manufactured. The following 3 equipment have been selected for design and manufacturing improvement under the MIEEIP.
