The Malaysian Industrial Energy Audit Guidelines is a revision of the 2nd edition of the first version which was launched by the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Energy, Water & Communications in September 2003. One of the findings regarding energy audits that have been conducted in Malaysia is the lack of a standard auditing procedure that energy consulting firms have to follow. Each consulting firm has its own concept of energy audits, particularly as to the scope/coverage, duration, procedures used, and the contents of the audit reports.
This is one particular concern that the clients from both the commercial and industrial sector have raised is concerning the quality of audit services that are obtained from energy consultants. To address this matter, PTM has come up with a standard general energy audit guide book that can be used by energy consulting firms providing energy audit services to industries as a form of reference material. Subsequently, the quality of the audits can be standardized and be used as a benchmark for both the ESCO and the client as a form of fulfilling expectations. For example, the energy auditor will know what type of services that can be provided while the client has an idea of what an energy audit is all about. Therefore, both parties’ expectations and needs are met through this revised 2nd edition as both parties understand what energy audit procedures consist of. At the same time, the book also serves as a knowledge product on the efficient operation of thermal and electrical utility equipment commonly used in the industrial sector today like its sister companion: Energy Efficiency & Energy Conservation Guidelines Part 1 : Electrical Equipment.
Every effort was made to ensure that the information written is in a direct and straight to the point manner for the reader. Through the inclusion of input and revisions by various energy professionals and energy auditors, the 2nd edition now includes additional chapters on the following technical systems:
Pumps & pumping design
Variable speed drive
General chiller system
Lighting
Furnace
Cooling tower system
