| The Energy Efficiency and Conservation Guidelines for Malaysian Industries. Part 1: Electrical Energy-use Equipment
The Electrical Energy-use Guidelines were launched on 31st July 2007 and published by PTM through the initiative of the Malaysian Industrial Energy Efficiency Improvement Project (MIEEIP). The Guideline was established under the Energy-Efficient Equipment Committee (EEMC) which headed by Suruhanjaya Tenaga (ST) which PTM acting as secretariat to the committee and comprises the following organizations:
• Ministry of Energy, Water and Communications
• Malaysian Industrial Development Authority
• Suruhanjaya Tenaga
• Pusat Tenaga Malaysia
• SIRIM Berhad
• Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers
PTM headed the Working Committee and comprised the following organization with:
• Suruhanjaya Tenaga
• Jabatan Kerja Raya
• SIRIM Berhad
• The Institution Engineers, Malaysia
• ASHRAE Malaysia Chapter
• Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers
• Association of Consulting Engineers Malaysia
• Universiti Teknologi Malaysia
The Guidelines have been prepared to highlight practical approaches and methods of implementing energy efficiency measures that could be achieved through adoption of the best practices in design, selection, monitoring, operation and maintenance of equipment and systems. The Part 1 of the Guideline covers a general category of electrical energy-use equipment, which is commonly used in the industries and selected equipment as follows:
• Transformer
• Motor
• Chiller
• Cooling Tower
• Fan and Blower
• Pump
• Air Compressor
• Lighting
The Guideline provides general approaches , standard values, guidance and case studies on energy conservation which will form the basis of internal benchmarking by manufacturers who embark on energy conservation. Industry or factory are encouraged to set their own internal goals on energy efficiency and energy conservation, improved productivity and profitability, conservation of natural resources and reduction of greenhouse gases in accordance with their facilities, operation and needs and suit with their own specific requirement. Through the use of the guidelines also, industry or factory will be able to determine their energy use performance of such equipment against industry standard values, formulate energy saving plan and establish best practices in their own operation, monitoring and maintenance.
